That's right, this teacher has caught some bug that is trying to take her out! It's okay, I rarely get sick. I just wish I could say I never get sick. I'm sure a lot of students have missed due to this one because it's really not friendly to the sick individual. I intend to introduce genre shortly, and allow students to complete retakes. I intend to roll out stations and allow students to begin to figure out working in groups. However, right now I have to take care of me as frustrating as that is to everyone including myself.
School has been going better than I dreamed, and I have the best students ever! It's been wonderful to teach my sweet seventh graders, especially after teaching the disinterested, so over it, eighth graders that I've had in the past. Don't get me wrong, I love my eighth graders too, and always will. It's just been so wonderful to work with these fresh young spirited students. Here's to a continuation of an excellent beginning as we head in to the concepts of genre, grammar, and proper writing techniques. Every mountain is climbed one step at a time, and sometimes I swear you have to build the mountain before you get to climb it. Nevertheless, it's wonderful once you and your loved one's have made it to the mountain top. We may feel like we are building the mountain, and not even yet in the business of climbing it, but eventually we will get to stand at the top peak and look down at the beautiful accomplishments we have made. This week we have learned a lot about one another. In all of that learning I have shared that I love Menchies FroYo to a fault, Starbucks coffee, and Logan's restaurant. I like to shop at Old Navy, and Maurice's, and that I don't like to shop a lot. I am crazy about Science Fiction for reading, movies, and television! We learned about my family. I shared with you that my husband survived brain cancer 4 years ago, and I wrote a book about it. I also have written two other books, but nothing is published yet because I'm too busy loving on my students, grading homework, and creating fun and inviting assignments. I shared that I teach piano lessons, and that I have two children at home. Caleb is my soon to be 12 year old son, and Abigail is my 7 year old daughter. You got to see my shoodle Jack, our stray cat that we rescued Isabella, and a hermit crab and fish. It's been a terrific week, and I'm looking forward to next week!
Well, we have just completed our first week of school! It has been a fun week full of learning new procedures and policies. I now have learned at least half of all of the student's names, and am looking forward to learning the rest next week. I know it is hard when we first get started to get adjusted to all of the new rules, and the new classroom procedures. I know it is especially to hard to figure out the in's and out's of each of the new teachers each year.
My son, Caleb, came home last night with his backpack full of his school supplies, and I asked him, "Why do you still have all of this?" He replied, "I don't have time to go to my locker." Poor thing! Managing our time wisely is a forever challenge. I can attest to that as an adult. I assure everyone that things will get better, we just have to make it through one step at a time. I told Caleb that I would help him get organized at home so he can set his locker up at school. At Oakland students are going to have to put there belongings in sets, because they cannot just go to their lockers when they need to. They need to go to their lockers when the time is designated. Girls go before even classes 1, 2, 4, and 6. Boys go before odd classes 1, 3, 5, 7. I assured Caleb that things would work out eventually, because I don't want him to have a hunchback. As we look forward to next week we need to remember that no mountain climb is achieved in one leap. This year can seem very overwhelming at the start, but we are going to take every challenge, every circumstance, every problem one step at a time. We are going to enjoy every success, every achievement, and every funny class blooper together, because we are all in this together, and we are all going to make it out together! Happy beginning to 7th Grade! |
